Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have been holding out to the very end and doing everything within our power to fight for our summer camp programs at Lake Geneva.
This past Saturday, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development released guidance for reopening churches which went into effect yesterday. After reviewing those guidelines, and coupled with the fact that overnight kids and youth camps are still restricted in Minnesota, our Presbyters and District Leadership have come to the conclusion that there is no path forward to hold our regular summer camp programs. Family Camp, Kids Camps, and Youth Camps will not take place in 2020.
While we are disappointed camps are not happening, that doesn’t mean you can’t join us at the lake this summer! Douglas County has given Lake Geneva Christian Center permission to operate resort-style. With that in mind, we are hoping to offer multiple 2 or 3 night options for friends and families to come to the campgrounds throughout July. There will be no programming, but the camp facilities will be available to those registered.
This unique format will work within the framework of state guidelines and capacity restrictions to provide a safe environment with appropriate social distancing at Lake Geneva. It’s still in development, but we’re calling it “Friends and Family Getaways.”
We will release details in the coming days and the staff at Lake Geneva will soon be reaching out to everyone who registered for Family Camp as they will have first priority for this new option.
Thank you for your support and for leading with excellence in your churches and communities during this season. Look for more information on the “Friends and Family Getaways” coming your way soon!
